The Stanford Arts & Literature Law Society (SALLS) is a cultural, social, and educational organization dedicated to offering a forum for SLS students interested in the intersection of law and the arts, as broadly defined but not limited to include the visual arts, performance arts, and literature. Issues the society might explore include artists' rights, antiquities repatration, the changing copyright landscape vis-a-vis the internet, etc.
SALLS fills a gap in the current offerings at SLS, since the Stanford Entertainment & Sports Law Association (SESLA) does not focus on the visual and literary arts. The new organization Writ aims to foster creative expression on legal topics, whereas SALLS aims to examine legal restrictions on creative expression.
